The Whole Country Had A Shortage
While you might deal with this in your house on what seems like a regular basis, the whole country had a shortage in 1973. Toilet paper caught on and became a household mainstay in the early 1900s, but when news outlets reported a paper shortage in Japan, Americans started buying any toilet paper they could find, leading to the actual shortage. There was even a semi-black-market toilet paper outlet at one time.
The Average Sheet Usage
It’s hard to say who sits around figuring this out, but Americans use, on average, 57 sheets of toilet paper each day. There are 350 sheets per roll so if only one person uses that roll, it’ll take a week to get through. With larger families, rolls constantly go empty and for whatever reason, most people don’t seem to understand how to change them.
